U.S. General Dismissed Over Controversial Report on Iran

According to Rokna, the Saudi news network Al-Sharq reported early today (Saturday) on its website that Mark Warner, a Democratic member of the U.S. Senate, announced that General Jeffrey Cruz, head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) under the Department of Defense (Pentagon), has been dismissed. Warner described this action as the latest example of the politicization of intelligence agencies under the administration of Donald Trump, the current President of the United States.

Warner, who serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, emphasized that the removal of yet another senior U.S. national security official confirms the reality that the Trump administration has adopted a dangerous approach toward the country’s intelligence institutions, treating them as “tests of loyalty rather than bastions for the nation.”

Meanwhile, The Washington Post reported that the recent action by U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in dismissing the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency is part of a broader purge campaign targeting senior officials in agencies operating within the national security sector.

According to the American newspaper, citing sources who spoke on condition of anonymity due to fear of retaliation, Cruz’s dismissal had no direct reason other than a “loss of trust,” a term Hegseth had previously used to justify the removal of other senior military officers earlier this year.

The Washington Post further reported that the dismissal of the head of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency followed the agency’s preliminary assessment of the U.S. military strike on three main nuclear sites in Iran in June, which provoked the strong anger of the Trump administration.

The report stated that Iran’s nuclear capability had only been set back by a few months, whereas Hegseth and President Donald Trump had claimed that these capabilities had been “completely destroyed.”

The Pentagon and the Defense Intelligence Agency have not yet responded to The Washington Post’s request for comment on this matter.
