Channel 12, Citing Its Sources, Claims:
Trump’s Response to Netanyahu: There Is Still a Chance for an Agreement with Iran
Rokna Political Desk: Donald Trump, in a meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasized that there is still a chance of reaching an agreement with Iran, while Netanyahu claimed that Iran would not adhere to agreements.
According to Rokna, Israel’s Channel 12 wrote: Netanyahu and Trump agreed that the United States will increase economic and political pressure on Iran’s oil.
The report continued: During Wednesday’s meeting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned U.S. President Donald Trump: “Even if you sign an agreement with Iran, they will not adhere to it.”
Trump, however, stressed: “Let’s give it a chance.”
Despite the differences of opinion, the two sides agreed to increase pressure on Iran regarding the sale of its oil to China.
Trump’s advisers also said: “For now, the Iranians are saying all the right things.”
What Was Said
According to two senior U.S. officials, Trump and Netanyahu agreed that simultaneously with negotiations with Iran and preparedness for military action, the United States will increase economic and political pressure on Iran.
A U.S. official said: “We agreed to pursue the maximum pressure policy against Iran with full force; for example, on the issue of Iran’s oil sales to China.”
Behind the Scenes of the Meeting
U.S. officials said Netanyahu and Trump agree on the ultimate objective: Iran must not have the capability to obtain a nuclear weapon.
However, there are differences of opinion regarding the path to achieving this goal.
A senior U.S. official said Netanyahu told Trump: “It is not possible to reach an agreement with Iran. Even if you sign an agreement, they will not adhere to it.”
Trump responded that he believes there is still a chance to reach an agreement: “We will examine it. We will give it a chance.”
The View of Trump’s Advisers
A U.S. official said Trump asked his advisers Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner about the chances of reaching an agreement with Iran.
They said: Historical experience shows that reaching a good agreement with Iran is very difficult, if not impossible.
Nevertheless, the Iranians are “for now saying all the right things.”
They told Trump: “We will continue the negotiations and adopt a tough position. If they agree to our demands, we will place the option before you, and you will decide.”
The Next Step
On Tuesday, Witkoff and Kushner will meet with the Iranian delegation in Geneva, Switzerland, to hold the second round of negotiations.
