Rosatom in Talks with Iran on Small Nuclear Plants

Likhachov told Rossiya 1 television, “At the beginning of this year, our Iranian partners proposed expanding the agenda from large units to smaller units, including small modular reactors. Such negotiations are underway, and I hope that sooner or later, agreements will be reached.”

Small nuclear power plants, also known as small modular reactors (SMRs), are a new generation of nuclear facilities that have attracted significant attention due to their smaller size and greater flexibility. These plants, with an electrical output of less than 300 megawatts, are particularly suitable for regions with lower energy demands or for integration with smaller power grids.
