Wall Street Journal Report on U.S. Strategy

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal, in its assessment of the current regional situation, stated that Donald Trump has adopted a policy of “ambiguity” and is refraining from clearly defining his stance toward Iran. The newspaper added that the extensive presence of U.S. military forces in the Middle East demonstrates the significant capabilities of the American military, and that the U.S. president must now decide how to employ this capacity.

A U.S. official also told the Wall Street Journal that Trump’s ambiguous strategy is intended to maintain the upper hand in both political and military arenas.

Contradictory Statements Regarding Saudi Arabia’s Position

In other developments, conflicting reports have emerged regarding Saudi Arabia. The news outlet Axios claimed that Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman privately stated in Washington that if Trump fails to carry out his threats against Iran, Tehran will become stronger. However, Saudi officials swiftly rejected this claim, emphasizing that Riyadh continues to support resolving differences between Iran and the United States through diplomacy and de-escalation.

CENTCOM Statement on Iran’s Military Exercise

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed in a statement that Iran is planning to conduct a live-fire military exercise near U.S. forces. According to NBC News, CENTCOM warned against holding any exercise that could endanger the security of American troops.

In response, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency rejected the claim, stating that the exercise referenced by CENTCOM is unrelated to U.S. movements and is scheduled to take place in late Bahman. The drill will be conducted with the participation of Iranian, Chinese, and Russian naval forces in the northern Indian Ocean under the title of the joint exercise “Maritime Security Belt.”

Progress in Iran–U.S. Negotiations

Despite the tense environment, officials from both countries reported the continuation of serious talks last night. In an interview with Fox News, Donald Trump stated that Iran has entered negotiations with the United States and that the possibility of reaching an agreement exists. He added, “We have to wait and see whether a deal will be reached or not.”

Additionally, Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, emphasized in a message on the social media platform X that despite media hype, the structure of the talks is progressing. Furthermore, a one-day visit by the Qatari foreign minister to Tehran has intensified speculation about more serious negotiations, although Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced that the trip was conducted within the framework of regional consultations aimed at helping preserve peace and stability and is not directly related to Iran–U.S. negotiations.
