Is Trump Innocent in the Epstein Case? Remarks from the U.S. House Speaker

Mike Johnson, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, stated that efforts to release documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, the notorious billionaire and sex trafficker, are nothing more than a “political game” aimed at discrediting the U.S. President, and affirmed that Donald Trump is innocent in this case.

According to Rokna, in an interview with Fox News, Speaker Johnson said: “They are doing this to accuse Donald Trump of involvement in this matter. But he has no role.”

Jeffrey Epstein, the notorious financier, along with his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, was convicted two decades ago for the sexual trafficking of underage girls. Epstein died in 2019 while in prison awaiting trial, a death that fueled conspiracy theories regarding possible murder and the existence of a secret client list.

Trump was once a friend of Epstein but has claimed that he severed ties in the early 2000s. Last year (2024), as a presidential candidate, Trump expressed willingness to release Department of Justice documents related to the case, but he later reversed his position.

Earlier this year, the Department of Justice announced it had closed the investigation, stating that “no criminal list of clients” had been found.

Since then, Trump has opposed the release of the documents, despite Republican Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Democratic Representative Ro Khanna of California successfully initiating a vote in the House.

Massie has predicted that over 100 Republican members will vote in favor of releasing the documents, describing the vote as a test of loyalty: either stand with Trump or with child abusers.

Massie told ABC News: “I have never said that these documents accuse Trump. I really don’t think that is the case.” He added, “In my view, Trump is trying to protect his wealthy and powerful friends, billionaires, campaign donors, and individuals close to his social circle. This is my theory for his strong opposition to releasing the documents.”

He also noted that Trump’s recent threat to investigate Democrats connected to Epstein could be his final effort to bring the entire case to court.

Meanwhile, Trump has withdrawn his support from his long-time ally Marjorie Taylor Greene over her support for the release of Epstein documents. Greene told CNN: “Because of my support for releasing Epstein documents, Trump has cut ties with me. Why make such a big fight over this?”

If the House of Representatives approves the measure, the case will move to the Senate, controlled by Republicans, where it is expected to face serious opposition.

Republican Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming told NBC: “They want to turn Trump into an ineffective president.”

Speaker Johnson again emphasized that if Democrats genuinely cared about this case, they should have acted to release the documents when Joe Biden was President and both chambers of Congress were under Democratic control. He described the current vote as a “political game.”

However, polls indicate that most Americans seek greater transparency on this issue, and many still do not understand why Trump is exerting such effort to keep the documents confidential.
