CNN: Trump Still Considering Ground Invasion of Venezuela
Rokna Political Desk: Donald Trump, President of the United States, is reportedly still considering the option of a ground invasion of Venezuela, while also leaving open the possibility for diplomatic engagement.
The U.S. media outlet reported that the President has not yet made a final decision regarding a ground attack on Venezuela, and at the same time, he suggested that a diplomatic opening might remain possible.
According to Rokna, the United States Navy previously announced that the strike group of the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Gerald R. Ford had entered the Caribbean Sea, an action that has intensified tensions between Washington and Caracas and fueled speculation about a potential U.S. ground assault on Venezuela.
CNN, citing a senior U.S. official and a White House source, reported: “Donald Trump, President of the United States, has not yet made a decision regarding a ground attack on Venezuela, and at the same time, he indicated that a window for diplomacy might open.”
The U.S. media added, citing these sources: “With the simultaneous deployment of U.S. military forces in the region, including the most advanced aircraft carrier and 15,000 personnel, President Trump hopes that this pressure will be sufficient to compel Nicolás Maduro, President of Venezuela, to step down without direct military action.”
Trump has previously expressed doubts about a direct military intervention within Venezuela, highlighting the potential risks for U.S. soldiers and raising questions about the likelihood of success.
He has also faced renewed criticism from some of his allies, who argue that his attention is overly focused on foreign affairs at the expense of domestic issues.
Nicolás Maduro has repeatedly asserted that the increased U.S. military presence in the region aims to “overthrow” him.
In August, Washington doubled the reward for intelligence leading to Maduro’s capture, raising it to $50 million, and accused him of “links to drug traffickers and criminal groups,” an allegation Maduro has denied.
Several U.S. media outlets recently reported, citing sources familiar with White House discussions, that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, General Dan King, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and other senior officials have briefed Donald Trump on the “military options against Venezuela.”
