“Shimon Azarzer” Accused of Spying for Iranian Intelligence; Involved in Multiple Security Missions
Rokna Political Desk: The Israeli domestic security agency, Shin Bet, announced regarding the arrest of an Israeli citizen accused of spying for Iran that a 27-year-old man had been in contact with Iranian intelligence operatives for over a year and, in exchange for money, provided sensitive military information and images from army bases.
The Israeli internal security service stated in a joint announcement yesterday (Sunday) that a 27-year-old man named Shimon Azarzer had been arrested on charges of cooperating with Iran. During more than a year, he maintained direct contact with Iranian intelligence agents.
Reports indicate that a few hours before an alleged Israeli attack on Iran, Azarzer was informed of the planned strike through received signals. He immediately contacted the same Iranian agent and, according to Israeli media, was instructed to install cameras near Prime Minister Netanyahu’s residence.
According to reports from Israeli media outlets, Shimon Azarzer, 27, from Kiryat Yam, with the assistance of his wife or girlfriend—who served in the army reserves and the air force—attempted to gather information about the military and air force bases.
Shin Bet and Israeli police investigations indicate that Azarzer maintained contact with Iranian intelligence agents for over a year, executing multiple security missions at their direction. He transmitted images and coordinates of sensitive locations within the occupied territories and reportedly even proposed providing critical information from army bases to Iranian operatives.
Israeli networks claimed that Azarzer received financial compensation for his services, transferred to him via digital payments.
According to the Israeli news channel i24 News, Azarzer was facing debts totaling 400,000 shekels and had an extensive criminal record. At one stage, he even considered the possibility of traveling physically to Iran.
The network also broadcast a portion of the alleged correspondence between Azarzer and the Iranian agent.
