The United States Tested an Unarmed Nuclear Bomb

A Russian news agency, citing a statement from Sandia National Laboratories — affiliated with the U.S. Department of Energy — reported that the United States carried out a successful test of an unarmed B61-12 nuclear bomb in mid-summer.

According to Rokna, quoting TASS, the statement said that the tests were conducted from August 19 to 21 (August 28–30 in the Iranian calendar) in the state of Nevada. During these tests, fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets carried and released the munitions fitted with unarmed warheads. The tests were coordinated by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).

The statement noted that the NNSA completed a program in late 2024 to extend the service life of this bomb by 20 years.

Donald Trump, the U.S. president, announced on October 29 that he had instructed the Pentagon to immediately resume nuclear testing.

Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, also recently stated that the tests include missile systems capable of carrying nuclear weapons. He did not categorically confirm that the United States is not considering the resumption of full-scale nuclear tests.
