Deadly Blast Rocks Red Fort Area in New Delhi: Police Launch Anti-Terror Investigation + Video

According to Rokna, citing reputable outlets, a powerful explosion tore through a vehicle near the Red Fort Metro Station in New Delhi on Monday evening, leaving at least eight people dead and more than twenty others injured, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:52 pm local time when a Hyundai i20, parked near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Subhash Marg, detonated under circumstances still under investigation. CCTV footage shows the vehicle had been parked in a nearby lot for about two hours before moving slowly along the road prior to the blast.

Law enforcement officials have launched a full-scale investigation under India’s Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act. Forensic teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), and local police are combing through debris and reviewing over 100 hours of surveillance footage to trace the vehicle’s route, ownership, and possible perpetrators. Several detentions have already been made, though authorities have not confirmed a motive.

Security measures across Delhi and neighboring states, including Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, have been significantly tightened. Increased patrolling has been reported at airports, metro stations, and key public spaces. Metro services around the Red Fort area were temporarily suspended, and the site has been sealed off for forensic examination.

The exact cause of the explosion remains undetermined, and officials are exploring all possibilities, including the use of explosives or other improvised devices. The identities of the occupants of the vehicle and whether they were perpetrators or victims have not yet been clarified.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm while security forces continue their investigation. Additional updates are expected as forensic analysis progresses and the NIA completes its preliminary inquiries.
