The incident occurred at approximately 6:52 pm local time when a Hyundai i20, parked near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Subhash Marg, detonated under circumstances still under investigation. CCTV footage shows the vehicle had been parked in a nearby lot for about two hours before moving slowly along the road prior to the blast.

Law enforcement officials have launched a full-scale investigation under India’s Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act. Forensic teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), and local police are combing through debris and reviewing over 100 hours of surveillance footage to trace the vehicle’s route, ownership, and possible perpetrators. Several detentions have already been made, though authorities have not confirmed a motive.

Security measures across Delhi and neighboring states, including Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, have been significantly tightened. Metro services around the Red Fort area were temporarily suspended, and the site has been sealed off for forensic examination.
