Controversial Banner at Russian Embassy Sparks Concerns in Seoul
Rokna Political Desk: South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed concern over the installation of a controversial banner reading “Victory Will Be Ours” atop the Russian Embassy in Seoul, which is interpreted as a reference to the Russia-Ukraine war and is likely to heighten tensions among citizens.
According to Rokna on Monday, citing Yonhap News Agency, South Korean officials stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally conveyed its concerns regarding the large banner displayed above the Russian Embassy building in Seoul.
The banner, written in Russian, reads: “Victory Will Be Ours.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that this issue could create unnecessary tensions among South Korean citizens and foreigners alike, as the banner is perceived as a reference to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
According to the report, the Russian Embassy has not yet removed the banner, which is said to have also been used during World War II.
This news comes as South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently announced that it is reviewing various measures to support Ukraine in its war with Russia, while reportedly considering joining a NATO-backed initiative to provide American weapons to Kyiv.
