The World’s Most Powerful Non-Nuclear Bomb; Turkey’s “Wrath” at a Glance

French media, in an assessment of the Gazap (Wrath) bomb, the most powerful conventional munition produced by Turkey, reported that Ankara, without possessing nuclear weapons, has reached a level of military deterrence capable of influencing global military balances.

According to Rokna, citing CNN Türk, the French publication Science Post described Gazap as the most powerful non-nuclear weapon designed to date, writing that Turkey, following its success in drones and automated defense systems, has now crossed a critical global threshold in the field of conventional armaments as well.

According to the report, the Gazap bomb, which was unveiled for the first time at the IDEF 2025 defense industry exhibition, creates an extremely intense explosion by utilizing oxygen and generates a deadly blast wave. French media emphasized that this weapon is neither atomic nor hydrogen-based; however, the level of destruction it causes produces results comparable to those of nuclear weapons. Weighing approximately 970 kilograms, Gazap generates temperatures of up to around 3,000 degrees, capable of melting concrete and steel, a feature that distinguishes it from classic conventional bombs.

The report further states that Gazap is also considered a fragmentation munition, dispersing approximately 10,000 metal fragments within a radius of nearly one kilometer at the moment of explosion. This figure is almost three times that of conventional fragmentation bombs, resulting in widespread and intense destruction.

According to these media outlets, the bomb has been designed to be deployable from fighter jets such as the F-16, a factor that has made its operational use highly simple and flexible.

French media also referred to the NEB-2 bomb, known as Hayalet (Spirit), which was unveiled alongside Gazap. Although it has less destructive power, it has been designed for underground targets. According to French sources, Hayalet can penetrate up to approximately 90 meters into soil and rock and has been specifically developed to destroy shelters and underground facilities. The report emphasized that Gazap and Hayalet have been designed as complementary systems and can be used together in a joint operational scenario.

The conclusion of French media assessments is that Gazap currently represents the most powerful non-nuclear bomb in the world, and that Turkey, by developing such weaponry, has demonstrated that it can achieve the necessary deterrence in modern warfare without relying on nuclear arms.
