Moment Turkish Cargo Ship Targeted in Ukraine
Rokna Political Desk: A Turkish cargo ship in the port of Odessa, Ukraine, was struck in a missile attack, likely carried out by Russia, causing material damage. Different news sources report the use of Iskander missiles and a drone strike.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that a Turkish cargo ship was damaged during an attack on the Chornomorsk port in Ukraine.
According to Rokna, citing Al Jazeera, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement that this incident once again demonstrates that threats to maritime security in the Black Sea remain serious and are increasing.
In this context, Agence France-Presse also reported that Oleksiy Kolba, Ukraine’s Minister of Reconstruction, said Russia had carried out a missile attack on civilian port infrastructure in the Odessa region.
Ukraine’s state railway company (Ukrzaliznytsia) also announced last Saturday (December 6) that a railway center near Kyiv was targeted in a wide-ranging drone and missile attack by Russia, damaging warehouses and railway cars.
According to the report, Ukraine Railways did not report any casualties from the nighttime attack in the city of Fastiv.
In recent weeks, Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector and infrastructure, targeting power plants and railway facilities.
Ukraine Railways stated in a message on Telegram that it had to cancel several suburban trains near Kyiv and Chernihiv in northeastern Ukraine.
Ukrainian emergency services reported fires and destruction within the railway station and warehouse area but provided no further details. The report also mentioned attacks on infrastructure in the Chernihiv region.
The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine announced that electricity and heat production facilities in the Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions had been targeted.
The ministry noted in a Telegram post that in the southern Odessa region, 9,500 customers remain without heating and 34,000 without water.
The Ministry added that port facilities in Odessa were also targeted; part of the infrastructure lost power, and operators had to switch to backup generators.
Additionally, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reported that the nighttime attack on energy infrastructure affected eight regions and caused power outages.
The war in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022, quickly becoming the largest security crisis in Europe since World War II. From the outset, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sought political, military, and financial support from the West. In response, the United States and the European Union imposed extensive sanctions on Russia. During this period, Russia has gained control over parts of eastern and southern Ukraine.
