Melania Trump Establishes Channel with Putin to Reunite Ukrainian Children with Families
Rokna Political Desk: U.S. First Lady Melania Trump has announced that, following months of private negotiations between her office and Russian officials, eight Ukrainian children separated from their families during the war have been reunited with their parents.

Melania Trump, the wife of U.S. President Donald Trump, stated that the reunifications took place after she sent a personal letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the plight of Ukrainian children affected by the ongoing conflict. According to Trump, the letter led to the establishment of a direct communication channel between her office and the Kremlin.
Speaking to reporters on Friday (local time), the First Lady revealed that Russia had permitted eight Ukrainian children to return home to their families, marking the outcome of months of quiet diplomacy focused on reuniting children displaced by the war between Russia and Ukraine.
She explained that the eight children were returned within the past 24 hours, and both sides have committed to continuing cooperation to facilitate the return of more children displaced during the war.
“This is an ongoing effort,” Melania Trump said in a short address at the White House. “Plans are underway to reunite more children in the near future. I hope peace will come soon — and perhaps it can begin with our children.”
According to CNN, Melania Trump’s remarks come at a time when the Trump administration has reduced funding for a leading organization that tracks evidence of war crimes in Ukraine, including the forced transfer of tens of thousands of children.
The Ukraine Conflict Observatory, run by Yale University’s Humanitarian Research Lab and supported by the U.S. State Department, was established in 2022 to collect, analyze, and disseminate evidence of war crimes and other violations committed in Ukraine.
The observatory has released multiple reports detailing alleged Russian war crimes, including efforts to relocate, indoctrinate, and in some cases forcibly adopt Ukrainian children — actions widely condemned by international rights groups.
Melania Trump’s initiative adds a personal diplomatic dimension to the broader, politically sensitive issue of the fate of displaced Ukrainian minors, as tensions between Washington and Moscow continue to simmer over accountability for wartime atrocities.
