Judge in Saddam’s Execution Survives Assassination Attempt

According to Rokna, Judge Munir Haddad reported on Sunday that he had been targeted by unidentified armed assailants in Baghdad but escaped unharmed. Haddad previously served as the Deputy Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals in Iraq’s Supreme Criminal Court and as the Head of the Committee overseeing the implementation of Saddam Hussein’s death sentence.

Describing the incident, Haddad stated that a white Kia vehicle, carrying two masked and armed individuals, opened fire on him, with the passenger beside the driver firing several shots in his direction. Despite the attack, Haddad survived without injury.

Shafaq News reported that Haddad added he had received repeated threats in recent days, the latest of which occurred on Saturday via a phone call while he was staying in a hotel room in Mashhad, Iran. He also noted that he had received threatening messages through mobile applications, which he believes were not politically motivated, and stated that he intends to submit the names of those responsible for the threats to the Iraqi judiciary.
