Trump’s UN Speech Branded ‘Meaningless’ and Contrary to Democratic Principles by Global Media

According to Rokna, CNN published a commentary criticizing the Republican president’s speech, writing that Trump, who holds the position of leader of the free world, made no reference to democratic values, offered no reassuring words to America’s concerned allies, and, as usual, ignored most of the world’s autocrats.

The commentary further stated that Trump presented nonsensical arguments regarding climate change, exposing his primitive understanding of science. His latest attempt to secure the Nobel Peace Prize, it noted, came despite the fact that most of the seven wars he claimed to have ended during his address were not even ongoing during his term.

Nonetheless, Trump’s first speech of his second presidential term at the UN General Assembly presented a sobering picture of the new global reality. The United States, once the foremost advocate and supporter of the UN for decades, has now become one of its harshest critics—a situation that raises questions about the organization’s ability to survive in its current form.

America’s allies, the commentary noted, must also recognize that the world’s most powerful man represents a hostile political force that, by supporting populist insurgents, seeks not only to undermine their political strongholds but also to weaken their democratic systems, just as he has within the United States.

Western news agencies also covered Trump’s controversial speech. Agence France-Presse wrote that while Trump’s first UN address in 2018 prompted laughter from fellow leaders, this time his full-scale attack on the global body and on America’s allies was met with near-total silence.

The Associated Press reported that in his first General Assembly speech since his re-election as president last November, Trump made no concessions, delivering his remarks under the banner of “America First.” He boasted that the United States has the strongest borders, military, friendships, and “the best spirit” of any nation, declaring, “This is truly America’s golden age.”

Trump also disparaged the United Nations as useless, mocking the institution for an escalator malfunction on the way to the assembly hall and for faulty teleprompters during his address.

In another AP report, his remarks were described as a final reminder to both U.S. allies and adversaries that the country—after four years of globalist leadership under President Joe Biden—has returned to an “America First” posture, marked by hostility toward the United Nations. Trump sharply criticized the organization’s passivity, saying it was filled with “empty words” that do not resolve wars.

Portraying himself as a peacemaker, Trump cited his administration’s success in addressing several global crises, while also recalling his orders to the U.S. military to strike Iran and Venezuela. He argued that “globalists” are on the verge of destroying successful nations.

Reuters also reported that European powers had spent months attempting to strengthen their relationship with Trump, focusing on securing U.S. support to help end the war in Ukraine. At the NATO summit in June, Trump and European leaders exchanged generous praise.

Yet in his UN speech, Trump mocked America’s NATO allies for failing to halt purchases of Russian oil and warned that harsh economic measures against Moscow would follow.
