Aldrich Ames, Former CIA Officer Who Spied for the Soviets, Dies at 84
Rokna Political Desk: Aldrich Ames, a former CIA officer who became one of the most damaging double agents in U.S. history, has passed away at the age of 84.
According to Rokna, citing BBC, the ex-counterintelligence officer, serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole, died on Monday at the Federal Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Maryland, CBS News, the BBC’s media partner in the United States, reported.
Ames was sentenced on April 28, 1994, after admitting to selling classified information to the Soviet Union and later to Russia.
During his espionage activities, he compromised over 100 covert operations and exposed the identities of more than 30 agents working for the West, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 CIA operatives.
