Will Putin Visit Tehran in Summer 2026?

Saeed Khatibzadeh, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, said in an interview that Tehran is preparing for the arrival of Russian President Vladimir Putin within the framework of the summit of Caspian littoral state leaders in the summer of 2026, but noted that a separate visit may also take place.

According to Rokna, citing RIA Novosti, Khatibzadeh stated: “At present, at least one visit during the summit of the leaders of the Caspian littoral countries is on the agenda. This is what we are currently planning for.”

However, the Iranian deputy foreign minister also raised the possibility that Putin could travel to Iran at other times outside of international programs.

He said: “Fortunately, Iran and Russia have deep and multifaceted relations, and reciprocal visits by delegations are not limited to such international occasions. I can tell you that we have many reasons for meetings in Tehran and Moscow at the highest level.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had previously said that Moscow views Iran’s proposal to host the seventh Caspian summit on 12 August 2026 in Tehran positively.

In May 2025, Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani stated that Iran was preparing the groundwork for Putin’s visit. However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized at the time that the exact dates of Putin’s trip to Iran had not yet been finalized, although he had received a valid invitation to visit the country.
