Trump Warns: Without Tariffs, America Faces Collapse
Rokna Political Desk: U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that opposition by the Supreme Court to his tariff policies could push the United States toward collapse and even relegate it to the level of a third-world nation. He asserted, however, that victory in this legal battle could make America the safest and wealthiest country in the world.
According to Rokna, citing Newsweek, Trump cautioned that if the Supreme Court rules against his authority to impose tariffs, the country could face “devastation.” He called for broad executive powers to act swiftly on matters of trade and national security.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear two cases on November 5—Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump and V.O.S. Selections, Inc. v. Trump—both challenging Trump’s authority to impose tariffs without congressional approval. These lawsuits, filed by small businesses and several states, argue that the U.S. Constitution grants Congress, not the president, the power to set tariffs, and that Trump exceeded his legal authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
The plaintiffs claim that the law does not grant the president independent authority to establish trade barriers. In contrast, Trump’s legal team maintains that the president must have broad powers to act decisively in matters of trade and national security.
On Sunday, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that the forthcoming ruling “will be one of the most important in the history of our country.”
He added, “If a president cannot move quickly and decisively using tariff power, we will be left defenseless, and it could even lead to the destruction of our country. The only ones fighting us are foreign nations that have abused us for years, those who do not love our country, and the Democrats—because our numbers and results are unbelievably good.”
Trump continued, “If we win, we will be, by far, the richest and safest nation in the world. If we lose, our country could fall to the level of a third-world nation. Let’s hope that does not happen.”
He also urged Americans to pray that such an outcome is avoided.
Analysts say the case has direct implications for presidential authority in trade matters and could determine whether future presidents may impose tariffs without congressional consent. The ruling is expected to reshape the balance of power between the executive and legislative branches. According to Trump and his advisers, however, restricting presidential powers in this area would weaken the United States against its global competitors and leave the country vulnerable.
