Trump Announces Possibility of a Trilateral Summit
Rokna Political Desk: The President of the United States announced the possibility of holding a trilateral summit between Washington, Kyiv, and Moscow, describing this initiative as an opportunity to strengthen the peace process between Ukraine and Russia.

The U.S. President, in a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, said: “If everything goes well, we will have a trilateral summit. In that case, the likelihood of achieving peace will be very high.”
According to Rokna, U.S. President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday evening at the White House.
At the outset of the meeting, Zelensky, while expressing appreciation for Washington’s “mediation” between Moscow and Kyiv, revealed that his wife had written a letter to Trump’s wife.
He also thanked Trump for inviting European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Finland, as well as NATO’s Secretary General to the United States.
The U.S. President, in his meeting with the Ukrainian leader, repeated: “If everything goes well, we will have a trilateral summit. In that case, the likelihood of achieving peace will be very high.”
In response to a question regarding the possible end of U.S. military support for Ukraine, Trump stated: “I will never say such a thing. Many people are killed every day. Millions have been killed. Last week, many soldiers were killed. I know Zelensky and Putin personally, and I think Putin seeks an end to the war.”
The American President further added during his meeting with Zelensky: “We want the war to end well for both sides. The people of Ukraine have suffered greatly.”
In response to a question about his intention to “send Ukrainian soldiers to their deaths,” Zelensky declared: “We are targeted by numerous attacks every day, and many are killed. This war must end, and we need U.S. and European assistance for that. We have shown that we are a strong people. We seek to end this war through diplomacy. We are also ready for a trilateral summit.”
In response to a question regarding his possible desire to deploy American peacekeepers to Ukraine, Trump said: “We will cooperate with Ukraine and everyone. This peace must be sustainable. We must also cooperate with Russia. If peace is achieved, it will be lasting—of that, I have no doubt.”
Responding to another question about the details of Western security guarantees for Ukraine, Trump, referring to his upcoming meeting with European leaders and the NATO Secretary General, said: “I may announce these details by the end of today. I am set to meet with the leaders of seven major countries. All of these countries will play a role in this security guarantee. Europe will be the frontline of defense, but the United States will assist them as well.”
When asked about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s conditions for ending the war and his remarks on the root causes of the conflict, Trump asserted: “The Ukraine war will end. I do not know when it will end, but the whole world is tired of this war. Both Zelensky and Putin want it to end. I thought ending the Ukraine war would be easy, but it is not easy at all.”
Despite the rejection of his claims by leaders of other countries, Trump insisted: “I have ended many wars. I ended six wars. Moreover, I destroyed Iran’s nuclear capabilities and its nuclear future. We will also end this war.”
The U.S. President added: “European leaders want peace. We are going to meet them. We will have lasting peace. I hope this peace will be immediate. The whole world will be pleased.”
When asked about Gaza, without mentioning children in the enclave or the horrific scenes broadcast daily from there, Trump claimed: “My wife witnessed heartbreaking scenes in Ukraine every day, and she was deeply affected. She loves children and is saddened by such images. Putin welcomed Melania’s letter.”
In response to a question about holding elections “after the end of the war,” Zelensky stated: “Yes, we will hold elections. But first of all, we must take the necessary measures in parliament. We need a ceasefire in order to conduct free elections. During wartime, elections cannot be held.”
Following the Ukrainian President’s remarks, Trump—who has repeatedly hinted at his desire to run in the 2028 U.S. presidential election—added: “So, if three and a half years from now (at the end of Trump’s second term) the war is still ongoing, we may not hold elections?”
Zelensky replied: “It is clear that you did not dislike this idea.”
The Ukrainian President also expressed appreciation for NATO’s new program that allows member states to purchase weapons from the United States and transfer them to Ukraine.
He said: “We are grateful for this program and this opportunity. We are grateful to Europe, as they are covering the costs.”
The U.S. President also praised this program, as it means that the United States is not directly giving “anything” to Ukraine, but is instead selling its military equipment to Kyiv’s allies.
Zelensky noted that American weapons are vital for Ukraine’s defense.
He said: “No country in Europe has as many air defense systems as the Patriot. We need them greatly.”
During his meeting with Zelensky, Trump expressed his appreciation for the “concept” of a ceasefire, yet downplayed his earlier call for one, instead voicing support for a broader peace agreement.
He added: “I like the concept of a ceasefire for one reason—because you immediately stop the killing of people, not after two weeks, or one week, or any other time.”
Trump said: “While they are fighting, we are working on a peace agreement. They have to fight. I wish they could stop. I would like them to stop, but strategically, this could be a disadvantage for one side or the other. I can also understand, strategically, why one side or the other would not want it. You declare a ceasefire, and they build up again and again and again, and you know, maybe they do not want that.”
In response to a question about offering Ukraine security guarantees similar to those of NATO, Trump stated: “Even before Putin, Russia never agreed to Ukraine’s NATO membership and never will. We have not yet discussed this issue, but we will provide very strong security guarantees to Ukraine.”
Trump further added: “After today’s meetings, we will speak with Putin. I will talk with him about holding a trilateral summit. If this summit does not take place, the war will continue. But if it is held, there will be a very good chance of ending it.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, in response to a question about Ukraine’s requirements, Zelensky emphasized: “Ukraine needs everything. Ukraine needs a strong army, which includes extensive equipment, training, and intelligence cooperation. This depends on major countries such as the United States and other allies of Ukraine.”
