China Responds to U.S. Sanctions on Iranian Oil-Carrying Ships

the legitimate rights and interests of its companies and citizens.

According to Rokna, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Beijing “will take the necessary measures to protect energy security and uphold the lawful rights of Chinese enterprises and individuals” in response to Washington’s new restrictions on tankers carrying Iranian crude.

The U.S. Treasury Department, under President Donald Trump’s administration, announced new sanctions against more than 50 individuals, entities, and vessels accused of facilitating the sale and shipment of Iranian oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

In a statement, the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) claimed:

“Today, OFAC intensified its actions against Iran’s oil and petrochemical exports by sanctioning over 50 individuals, entities, and vessels involved in facilitating the sale and transport of Iranian oil and LPG. These actors collectively enabled the export of billions of dollars’ worth of oil and petroleum products, generating vital revenue for the Iranian regime and its support for terrorist groups that threaten the United States.”

Beijing has consistently opposed Washington’s unilateral sanctions, arguing that such measures undermine global energy stability and violate international law.
