"Trump Files $15 Billion Defamation Lawsuit Against New York Times"

According to Rokna, citing The Guardian, the legal action, filed Monday in a US district court in Florida, cites several articles and a book authored by two Times journalists in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election. Trump’s lawsuit claims these works are part of a decades-long pattern by the newspaper to defame him. According to the filing, “Defendants published such statements negligently, with knowledge of the falsity of the statements, and/or with reckless disregard for their truth or falsity.”

Trump criticized the newspaper in a social media post on Truth Social, stating that the New York Times has been “allowed to freely lie, smear, and defame me for far too long, and that stops, NOW!” He described the outlet as a “virtual mouthpiece for the Radical Left Democrat Party,” highlighting its endorsement of Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, and accused it of spreading falsehoods about his family, business, the America First Movement, MAGA, and the nation as a whole. The former president did not provide evidence to support these claims.

This lawsuit is the latest in a series of legal actions Trump has pursued against media organizations. Earlier this year, he filed a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal and media mogul Rupert Murdoch over reporting on his connections to Jeffrey Epstein. Trump has also previously settled defamation claims against ABC News and Paramount over coverage related to Harris, with settlements of $15 million and $16 million respectively.

The New York Times has not immediately responded to requests for comment regarding the lawsuit.
