Master Mahmoud Farshchian / Icon of Contemporary Iranian Art

According to Rokna, Master Mahmoud Farshchian is regarded as one of the most prominent figures in Iranian art and painting. His works have been exhibited in various parts of the world, and his name has become known globally as one of the great painters of this land.

Master Farshchian was born on January 24, 1930, in Isfahan. His father soon discovered his talent in painting and introduced him to the workshop of Mirza Agha Emami. This talented young artist from Isfahan, by utilizing traditional arts and studying alongside the great masters of his time, rapidly advanced on the path of progress.

Unique Artistic Life and Works

Master Farshchian presented Iranian art in a new and distinctive manner; inspired by traditional Iranian styles, he achieved the creation of a unique style which has been named the Farshchian School. Many of his works revolve around religious, Shiite, and mystical themes. One of his most prominent works, titled “The Era of Ashura,” is recognized in Iran as his most enduring painting.

Throughout his artistic career, Master Farshchian held numerous exhibitions around the world. In 2001, the Farshchian Museum was inaugurated in Saadat Abad, Tehran, to display his unparalleled works.

The awards and honors received by this artist reflect the depth of his art and his impact. Among the most important titles he earned are the “First-Class Art Medal of Iran,” the “Golden Oscar Statue of Italy,” the “Gold Medal of the International Art Festival of America,” and dozens of other honors.
