Khuzestan in Flames; Iran Becomes Hottest Place on Earth

According to Rokna’s social affairs correspondent, on one of the most extreme summer days of 2025 (corresponding to 9 Mordad 1404 in the Iranian calendar), Iran once again topped the list of the hottest places on the planet. Based on the latest meteorological data, the city of Omidiyeh in Khuzestan Province recorded a stifling 51°C in the past 24 hours, claiming the title of the world’s hottest location.

However, this is not the only alarming detail. Out of the 15 regions with the highest recorded temperatures globally, four Iranian cities are present: Omidiyeh, Abadan, Ahvaz, and Dezful (Safiabad Station). This data not only reflects the extraordinary intensity of the heatwave sweeping through the region but also serves as a serious warning regarding public health and the durability of the country’s infrastructure.

If this heatwave persists, it could lead to severe consequences, ranging from increased cases of heatstroke and heat-related illnesses to crises in electricity and water supply, as well as disruptions to daily life. In parts of Khuzestan, the pressure on power and water consumption has become so critical that blackouts and water cuts have already been reported.

Experts warn that without urgent and effective action, the situation may escalate into a full-blown crisis. Citizens are advised to avoid outdoor exposure during peak heat hours—especially between 12:00 and 17:00—conserve water and electricity, and use air conditioning systems at moderate settings.

As Khuzestan and other sweltering regions of Iran struggle under the blazing sun, this situation underscores the urgent need to reconsider national climate policies, resource management strategies, and public health protections in the face of increasingly severe climate change impacts.
