Baghayi: Indirect Talks Between Oman and the US Have Begun / Discussions Focused on Nuclear Issues
Rokna Political Desk: The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the third round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States has commenced with a meeting held Wednesday evening between the Foreign Ministers of Iran and Oman.
Esmaeil Baghayi, speaking on the sidelines of the second day of Iran-US talks in Geneva, said that during this meeting, Iran’s views and perspectives were conveyed in detail to the Omani side.
He added: “As far as I am aware, discussions and negotiations between the Omani and American sides began this morning, and we will be present at the negotiation venue in approximately 30 to 45 minutes.”
Baghayi further noted that Mr. Rafael Grossi will join the third round of negotiations, just as he did in the second round.
The Iranian diplomat emphasized that the Islamic Republic’s delegation has arrived at these negotiations fully prepared and with complete seriousness. He stated: “Experts and specialists in nuclear affairs, sanctions relief, legal, and economic matters are part of our team, and we are ready to continue discussions for as long as necessary.”
He reiterated that Iran is participating in these negotiations with full seriousness and readiness.
Regarding the consultations held last night between the Foreign Ministers of Iran and Oman, and what Iran communicated to the Omani side as mediator, Baghayi said: “As we have repeatedly stated, the negotiations are focused on nuclear issues. Our positions in the two areas of sanctions relief and our rights regarding nuclear technology are clear and defined. Within these two topics, we have shared our views and perspectives with the Omani side, and details regarding these positions will be discussed during exchanges between the two delegations.”
In response to a question concerning occasionally differing statements from US officials regarding the negotiations, the spokesperson stated: “Part of our work is naturally to monitor the viewpoints and statements made by American officials. These contradictions are something we have encountered from US officials over the past year.”
Baghayi continued: “Naturally, if there are perspectives or positions, they should be presented in the negotiation room. I observed that the US Secretary of State had expressed certain opinions regarding negotiation issues; these matters should be raised within the negotiation room. Raising them publicly in the media creates the impression that there is a disagreement among relevant US officials on negotiation topics, and clearly, such contradictions do not help advance the negotiation process.”
