Robert De Niro: Trump Is an Enemy of the United States

According to Rokna, De Niro said in an interview with the Deadline: White House podcast hosted by Nicolle Wallace, in a sharp tone: “The story is our country, and Trump is destroying it. I don’t know what his reasons are, but it’s pathological, it’s broken. We have to save the country.”

He also described Trump as “an enemy of this country, America,” adding: “Let’s not kid ourselves. It’s that simple. Everyone has to stand together to remove them and put the country back on the right track.”

During the interview, the actor repeatedly emphasized the necessity of resistance and said: “People have to resist, resist, resist. There is no other way. There is no magic bullet. Even if Trump, for any reason—for example, because of illness—dies, parts of that movement will still remain, and that’s the scary part of it. This current must be neutralized by the people.”

In the final part of the conversation, when the host referred to De Niro’s Oscar acceptance speech in 1981 for the film Raging Bull, De Niro became emotional and responded in a choked voice: “You have to lift people up, you have to bring them together. That’s it. You can’t divide people. You can’t win with division.”

De Niro has previously been one of Trump’s most outspoken critics. In October 2025, in a video released by the political activist group Indivisible, he called on people to participate in anti-Trump protests.
