Trump Confirms Araghchi’s Remarks
Rokna Political Desk: Following the conclusion of negotiations between Iran and the United States in Muscat, Oman, Araghchi described the talks as a “good start.” In response, Trump also emphasized that the United States had “good talks” with Iran.
A few hours after the conclusion of the Iran-US talks in Muscat, Donald Trump stated that it appears Iran is willing to reach an agreement.
Trump’s Remarks After the Talks
According to Rokna, the US President stated: “We had good talks with Iran, and we will meet again next week. I think Iran wants to reach an agreement. We have to wait and see what that agreement will be.”
Trump: Iran Has Moved Closer to an Agreement
Trump also emphasized that Iran will not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons. He said: “We are not in a hurry to reach a deal with Iran and we have enough time. As in the case of Venezuela, we will wait. The difference in this round of negotiations compared to previous ones is that it appears Iran has changed its stance. If an agreement had been possible two years ago, we would have accepted it, but at that time the Iranians were not ready. Now, their willingness to reach an agreement has increased.”
Trump Warns of Consequences
The US President further warned that failing to reach an agreement could have severe consequences. He added: “We have to see where this process leads.”
US Naval Deployment to the Region
Trump, referring to the US military presence in the region, said: “We have a powerful navy and a large fleet moving toward that region, and it will arrive soon. We will soon see how the situation develops.”
Imposition of New Tariffs
In further developments, Trump signed an executive order on Friday imposing a 25 percent tariff on trade with countries cooperating with Iran. News of the signing of this executive order was released only a few hours after the conclusion of Iran-US talks in Oman.
