Successful Flight of Turkey’s KIZILELMA Combat Drone Equipped With IRST System

Turkey’s Bayraktar KIZILELMA combat drone has successfully completed its first test flight equipped with an Infrared Search and Track (IRST) system, achieving a significant technological milestone in the development program of this unmanned aerial platform.

During the test, the KARAT-100 system manufactured by the Turkish company Aselsan was fully integrated and operated on the drone. This system is a passive sensor that detects and tracks aerial targets based on their thermal signatures without emitting radar waves, making it an ideal option for stealth platforms.

According to Baykar, the use of the IRST system enables KIZILELMA to detect and pursue targets with very low thermal signatures without revealing its own position. This capability not only enhances the drone’s survivability in aerial combat but also significantly increases its resistance to electronic warfare and radar jamming.
