U.S. Considers Sanctions on Spain: Is Israel Behind This Move?
Rokna Political Desk: The United States is reportedly considering sanctions on Spain due to Madrid’s prohibition on the transit of military equipment destined for Israel. Spain’s decision, taken in protest against Tel Aviv’s attacks on Gaza, has affected Washington-Madrid relations.
A Zionist media outlet reported on Sunday that the U.S. is examining the possibility of maritime sanctions against Spain in response to its recent actions affecting Israel.
According to Rokna, Israel’s Channel 11 reports that following Spain’s refusal to grant docking permission for ships bound for the occupied territories, Washington is reviewing punitive measures against Madrid. Al Mayadeen reported yesterday that the ships in question were carrying U.S. weapons and ammunition, and that the United States is considering restrictive actions against vessels flying the Spanish flag.
In late September, the Spanish government, led by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, prohibited the transit of U.S. aircraft and ships carrying weapons, ammunition, or military equipment to the occupied territories via its military bases. This measure was taken in protest against Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip.
The Spain-U.S. Joint Committee confirmed that the ban applies both to aircraft and ships traveling directly to the occupied territories and to those making stopovers along the route.
