Controversy Erupts After Indian Minister Pulls Down a Doctor’s Hijab + Video

Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, came under fire once again for a controversial action just one month after taking the oath of office for the tenth time.

According to Rokna, a video that has been widely circulated on social media shows the 74-year-old politician and leader of the Janata Dal party during an official ceremony in the city of Patna. While presenting a certificate to a female doctor, he gestures for her to remove her hijab.

Before the woman has a chance to respond, Kumar reaches out and pulls down her hijab, revealing her mouth and chin.

As some attendees are seen laughing in the background, Samrat Choudhary, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, is observed attempting to stop the act.

The Indian National Congress party described the behavior as shameful and offensive and called for Nitish Kumar’s resignation from the post of Chief Minister. The Rashtriya Janata Dal party also described the incident as a sign of a deterioration in his mental condition.

In a post on the social media platform X, the party wrote: What has happened to Nitish? His mental condition has now reached a completely regrettable stage.

Ijaz Ahmed, a spokesperson for the party, also said: By removing the hijab from the face of a Muslim woman, Nitish Kumar clearly showed what kind of policy these parties pursue in the name of women’s empowerment. Removing a woman’s covering is, in fact, depriving her of the right to live in accordance with her culture and religious freedom; a right that is guaranteed to all citizens under the Indian Constitution.
