Will the United States No Longer Accept Immigrants?

Recently, the publication of various reports on the intensification of Trump’s anti-immigration policies and mass deportations has raised substantial anxiety among immigrants within the United States, as well as among individuals planning to migrate to the country.

According to Rokna, on Sunday, American media reported the second wave of deportations of Iranian immigrants from U.S. soil.

CNN: Trump to Deport Iranians Today

On Sunday, CNN, citing a knowledgeable source, reported that the Trump administration had decided to deport Iranian nationals from the United States. The source told CNN that the U.S. government is expected to return dozens of Iranians to their home country on Sunday.

According to CNN, this marks the second flight returning Iranians from the United States to Iran following a rare agreement between Tehran and Washington. These actions come as the Trump administration continues to exert substantial pressure to deport undocumented immigrants.

New York Times: U.S. Sent 50 Iranians Back to Iran on Sunday

Following CNN’s report on Sunday, the New York Times confirmed on Monday, citing informed sources, that 50 Iranians had been deported from the United States.

According to the New York Times, the flight carried 50 Iranian immigrants along with several other deportees, departing from Arizona on Sunday local time. The deportation of these Iranian immigrants was carried out under an agreement reached between the Trump administration and the Iranian government two months ago.

Suspension of Green Card and Citizenship Applications for Citizens of 19 Countries

The deportation of this group of Iranian immigrants was not the only recent news regarding immigration barriers imposed by the Trump administration. Last week, American media reported the suspension of Green Card and U.S. citizenship applications for citizens of 19 countries worldwide.

In this context, National Public Radio (NPR) reported on December 3 that following the killing of two U.S. National Guard members by an Afghan national, the Department of Homeland Security is implementing stricter measures to make immigration applications more difficult. In line with this, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced last Tuesday that the review of all applications for Green Cards, citizenship, or asylum from immigrants from 19 countries previously included in the travel ban list would be suspended. According to reports, this ban includes Iran.

Green Card Eligibility Conditions to Be Reviewed

These reports regarding the suspension of Green Card and citizenship applications come after American media in October also reported a review of eligibility conditions for Green Cards for skilled foreign professionals.

Business Standard, citing the American magazine Forbes on October 15, reported that the Department of Homeland Security is drafting a new law to redefine the conditions under which foreign professionals can obtain residency through Green Cards.

According to the report, this law, expected to be published by January 2026, will review and revise the categorization of individuals with extraordinary abilities, in addition to the classification of distinguished professors and researchers.
