Trump Announces: U.S. Ground Operation in Venezuela to Begin Soon

According to Rokna, citing CNN, Donald Trump has repeatedly blamed Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in recent months for the surge in migration and drug trafficking, threatening to take military action against the country. Last month, he claimed in the Oval Office: “They sent hundreds of thousands of prisoners to America.”

While the U.S. military continues naval operations against vessels suspected of drug trafficking, Trump warned that a ground operation against drug cartels inside Venezuela will also begin soon.

According to research by the Niskanen Center, U.S. attacks could lead to the expulsion of three to four million Venezuelan migrants from American soil.

Now, amid escalating tensions between Washington and Caracas, the deployment of more than 15,000 U.S. troops to the region, and the absence of any diplomatic solution on the horizon, concerns are mounting about a growing crisis of displaced persons and deported migrants.

Donald Trump spoke about the war in Ukraine and the Gaza ceasefire, defended the controversial U.S. military attacks on boats suspected of drug trafficking in the Caribbean Sea, and—while threatening Venezuela—announced that ground operations would begin soon.

On Wednesday evening, the U.S. President told reporters that these operations had saved thousands of American lives, even as lawmakers demanded the full and unedited release of videos related to the September 2 incident.

When the President was asked Wednesday night, local time, why the administration had released footage of the first attack but not of the second—footage which is central to allegations concerning the deaths of survivors on the boat—Trump replied: “I don’t know what the issue is, but whatever it is, it will certainly be released. There is no problem.”

Chuck Schumer, the Senate Minority Leader, once again called for the full release of footage from the September 2 attacks on the boat suspected of trafficking drugs for Venezuela, warning that a lack of transparency creates legal risks for military personnel and undermines public trust.
