Fresh Details on Trump’s Son-in-Law’s Meeting with Ukrainian Officials

In a statement, the U.S. Department of State reported that Steve Witkoff, the U.S. President’s Special Envoy for Peace, and Jared Kushner met with Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, and General Andriy Khonatov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. The statement highlighted that the American and Ukrainian delegations agreed on the framework of security arrangements.

According to Rokna, the State Department statement—published on the department’s website—reads:

“Over the past two days, Special Envoy Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner held constructive discussions with Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, and Andriy Khonatov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, aimed at advancing a reliable pathway toward achieving lasting peace in Ukraine.”

The statement continues:

“Today, the group held their sixth meeting in the past two weeks, and Rustem Umerov reiterated that Ukraine’s priority is reaching an agreement that protects the country’s independence and sovereignty, guarantees the safety of Ukrainians, and provides the foundation for stability and a democratic, prosperous future.”

The State Department statement also says:

“The participants reviewed the results of the recent meeting between the American side and the Russian side, as well as steps that could lead to ending the war. The Americans and Ukrainians also agreed on the framework of security arrangements and examined the deterrence capabilities needed to consolidate lasting peace. The parties separately reviewed the ‘Future Prosperity Program,’ aimed at supporting post-war reconstruction in Ukraine, along with joint economic initiatives between Ukraine and the United States and long-term projects.”

At the end of the statement, the U.S. Department of State emphasized:

“The American and Ukrainian delegations stressed that ending the war and taking reliable steps toward a ceasefire and de-escalation to prevent renewed aggression are essential. The two sides are scheduled to meet again on Saturday to advance these discussions.”
