Reviewing the United States’ New Approach in the Western Hemisphere and Its Perpetual Accusations Against Iran

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, in its new “National Security Strategy,” reiterated its allegations against Iran while underscoring a shift in the United States’ global role to a regional one and an increase in dominance over Latin America.

According to Rokna, Trump claimed in a note included in the preface to this document—released on Friday—that Iran “lost its nuclear enrichment capability in our Midnight Hammer operation.”

Trump also asserted: “We resolved eight simmering conflicts in just eight months, including the dispute between Cambodia and Thailand, between Kosovo and Serbia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, Pakistan and India, Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and ending the war in Gaza with the return of all surviving hostages to their families.”

Agence France-Presse reported that the Trump administration stated in this document that the United States will pivot from its global role toward dominance in Latin America and intensified confrontation with migration.

The U.S. National Security Strategy, which is intended to articulate Trump’s norm-defying “America First” worldview, reflects a sharp departure from earlier U.S. calls for a focus on Asia, although it still identifies China as the principal rival.

The strategy heavily criticizes European allies and states that the United States will support opponents of values promoted by the European Union, including on the issue of migration.

The document abandons decades of U.S. efforts to remain the sole superpower and declares: “The United States rejects for itself the grim concept of global domination.”

The document states that the United States will also prevent domination by other powers, but “this does not mean spending blood and treasure to limit the influence of all major and middle powers around the world.”

Additionally, the new National Security Strategy calls for “resetting our global military presence to confront immediate threats in our own hemisphere and moving away from arenas whose relative importance to U.S. national security has declined in recent decades or years.”

The strategy adopts a highly assertive tone regarding U.S. dominance over Latin America and presents Trump as a reviver of the “Monroe Doctrine.” Under the Monroe Doctrine, introduced two centuries ago, the young United States prohibited rival European powers from expanding influence into Latin America.

The document states: “We are announcing and implementing a ‘Trumpian interpretation’ of the Monroe Doctrine.”
