U.S. and Ukrainian Officials Meet Ahead of Sensitive Negotiations in Moscow

Axios reported that American and Ukrainian officials are meeting this Sunday morning local time in Miami, United States, to review the final draft of Washington’s peace plan.

According to Rokna, reporting from this U.S. outlet, this meeting is taking place prior to the trip of the U.S. president’s representatives—Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner—to Moscow to present the document to Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia.

The U.S. peace plan has undergone multiple revisions in recent days in order to make it more acceptable to Kyiv. Before the resignation of Andriy Yermak, head of the presidential office and chief negotiator of President Volodymyr Zelensky, he led the Kyiv delegation; however, he resigned following an anti-corruption investigation involving him.

The Ukrainian delegation is now headed by Rustem Umerov, Ukraine’s National Security Advisor, and is present in Miami. The delegation includes Serhiy Kyslytsya, Deputy Foreign Minister; Olha Stefanishyna, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Washington; General Andriy Hnatov, Chief of the General Staff; and Ukrainian intelligence officials. The American side is participating in the negotiations with the presence of Marco Rubio, Witkoff, and Kushner.

In last week’s negotiations in Geneva, the parties reached agreement on most issues, but two key topics—security and borders—remain unresolved.

The U.S. side hopes that by presenting the terms of the agreements with Ukraine, it can accelerate progress in the negotiations with Putin, although the Kremlin has previously expressed doubt about accepting the conditions, and Putin has demanded the fulfillment of Russia’s territorial claims.

Zelensky announced on Saturday that diplomacy remains active and that the Ukrainian delegation, with its defined directives, will pursue negotiations based on national priorities.
