Gharibabadi: Three European Countries Have Removed Themselves from Diplomacy with Iran

According to Rokna, citing the Government Information Base, Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said on the sidelines of an international conference, in a briefing with reporters: “Three European countries, by what they have done, have removed themselves from diplomacy with Iran. They were defeated and want to compensate for their defeat in Vienna.”

He continued: “Iran demonstrated goodwill with the Agency and reached an agreement in Cairo.”

Raising a question about their intentions, the Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs said: “The snapback, in the manner they expected, has not produced the desired impact, and its fallout has been contained.”

He added: “They are now pursuing pressure. This conveys a clear message: they have no interest in engaging with Iran. Naturally, our circumstances after the resolution in the Board of Governors will be different. The Cairo agreement is now completely set aside.”

Gharibabadi emphasized: “Iran is considering a revision of its relations with the Agency, and in the event a resolution is issued, Iran will conduct a fundamental reassessment. Interaction, at this stage, is not their priority.”

Regarding Iran’s complaint against Trump, he said: “Our legal actions are under review; of course, responsibility for legal measures concerning the act of aggression lies with the Vice-Presidency for Legal Affairs. We hope they will announce promptly what steps will be taken concerning the aggression.”

He continued: “The remarks made by the U.S. president further aggravate America’s responsibility. In any case, the United States already bore legal responsibility for the aggression against Iran’s facilities, but now it has also accepted responsibility for Israel’s attack. Naturally, our legal follow-ups from this point onward will take a different course, and we are indeed pursuing a complaint against Trump.”

Regarding the issue of obtaining compensation from the United States, he added: “Legal mechanisms at both the national and international levels must be formulated, and follow-ups will proceed in accordance with those mechanisms. Naturally, the question of compensation will be included in Iran’s demands.
