Ahmad al-Shara Viewed by Trump as an Exceptionally Powerful Leader
Rokna Political Desk: U.S. President Donald Trump, following his meeting with Ahmad al-Shara, the President of Syria, described him as a strong and determined leader and spoke of his commitment to supporting Syria’s success.
In his first remarks after meeting Ahmad al-Shara, also known as Julani, at the White House, Trump expressed his confidence in al-Shara’s leadership.
According to Rokna, citing CNN, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office regarding Ahmad al-Shara: “He is an exceptionally powerful leader who has emerged from an extremely challenging environment. He is a determined man whom I admire and agree with. We will do our utmost to support Syria’s success.”
Ahmad al-Shara, who managed to overthrow Bashar al-Assad, became the first Syrian president ever to visit the White House.
Trump had previously met Ahmad al-Shara in May in Saudi Arabia, where he described the Syrian president as a charismatic young leader and ordered the lifting of all Syrian sanctions. Yesterday, Ahmad al-Shara met with Trump again at the White House to discuss the potential lifting of U.S. sanctions on Syria. However, strict U.S. sanctions on Syria remain in place, and they cannot be lifted without Congress’s approval.
