Khatibzadeh: Revival of Nuclear Talks Depends on U.S. Conduct

According to Rokna, Saeed Khatibzadeh, Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of the Center for Political and International Studies of Iran, during his visit to Japan and in an interview with the country’s media, outlined the Islamic Republic of Iran’s positions regarding the stalled nuclear negotiations with the United States.

Referring to the ongoing suspension of the nuclear talks, Khatibzadeh said, “If the United States demonstrates the will to reach an agreement from an equal position, it will be possible to achieve one.” He emphasized that the resumption of negotiations depends on the approach and behavior of the American side.

In an interview with NHK, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister explained that in September this year, the U.S. side raised several requests concerning Iran’s missile program, adding, “Missiles are essential for maintaining national sovereignty and territorial integrity and are not subject to negotiation.”

He further stressed, “If the United States enters with a genuine will to reach an agreement from a position of equality, speaks with respect, and abandons the delusions it harbors, everything will be achievable.”

The senior Iranian diplomat reiterated that the continuation or revival of the nuclear negotiations depends on the behavior and intentions of the United States.

Regarding the International Atomic Energy Agency’s inspection of Iran’s damaged nuclear facilities, Khatibzadeh said, “Access to these facilities is highly limited, and methods for cooperation and joint activities must be developed.”
