Elon Musk and Donald Trump enter heated New York mayoral race
Rokna Political Desk: On the eve of New York’s mayoral election, Elon Musk and Donald Trump have intensified the race by openly supporting Andrew Cuomo against rival Zohran Mamdani, drawing widespread attention to the contest.
With the city set to vote within hours, U.S. President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk have thrown their weight behind Andrew Cuomo, the main challenger to Zohran Mamdani.
According to reports, Trump on Monday night publicly urged New York residents to vote for Andrew Cuomo in the mayoral election.
In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump described Zohran Mamdani as a “communist,” writing: “If the communist Zohran Mamdani wins the New York City mayoral race, it’s very unlikely that I will contribute to federal budgets beyond the minimum required, because with this communist in charge, the city has no chance of success or even survival. Things will only get worse with a communist at the helm.”
Trump concluded his post saying: “Whether or not you personally like Andrew Cuomo, you really have no choice; you must vote for him and hope he does a good job. He’s capable of doing it—but Mamdani is not!”
Trump’s endorsement of Cuomo, who is running as an independent candidate, came just hours after a similar show of support from Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and the former governor of New York.
Interestingly, despite Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa’s presence in the race, both Trump and Musk have argued that a vote for Sliwa would effectively count as a vote for Mamdani.
Musk wrote on his X account: “Remember to vote in New York, and remember—a vote for Curtis is really a vote for Mamdami, or whatever his name is. Vote Cuomo.”
It is worth noting that the misspelling of Zohran Mamdani’s name has become a common feature among his political opponents.
