Obama: Trump Has Turned America into a Permanent Halloween Party + Video
Rokna Political Desk: Former U.S. President Barack Obama sharply criticized Donald Trump’s administration, saying that America has entered a dark era and become a “permanent Halloween party” — a place where only tricks are seen and there are no treats.
Barack Obama, the former U.S. president, appeared at two campaign rallies in support of Democratic gubernatorial candidates in two states, urging voters to stand firm against what he described as the “lawlessness and recklessness” of Donald Trump’s government.
According to Rokna, citing Reuters, Obama — who remains highly popular among Democrats — spoke at rallies for Abigail Spanberger in Virginia and Mikie Sherrill in New Jersey, delivering scathing criticism of Trump’s performance in office.
In his address at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, Obama said, “Let’s be honest — our country is in a dark time. We don’t even know where to start, because every day from the White House we see a new wave of lawlessness, cruelty, and chaos.”
Obama described Trump’s tariff policy as “chaotic” and condemned the deployment of the National Guard to U.S. cities. He also accused Republican members of Congress of remaining silent in the face of Trump’s misconduct.
“Even when they know he has crossed the line, they still fail to respond,” Obama said.
According to him, even business executives, law firms, and universities have “shockingly bowed down” to Trump to keep him satisfied.
At another rally in Newark, New Jersey, Obama delivered a similar message, saying: “It feels like every day in America is Halloween — except it’s full of tricks and there are no treats.”
With biting sarcasm, Obama referred to some of Trump’s decisions, including renovating parts of the White House during the federal government shutdown, saying: “To be fair, Mr. Trump is focused on the critical issues — like paving the Rose Garden so his shoes don’t get muddy and building a $300 million ballroom.”
In the polls, 46-year-old Abigail Spanberger, a former CIA officer and six-year member of Congress, leads her Republican opponent Winsome Earle-Sears, 61, the lieutenant governor.
In New Jersey, most polls show Mikie Sherrill holding a slight lead over her Republican rival Jack Ciattarelli, 63.
Although Republicans have achieved surprising results in New Jersey in recent years, the state remains largely Democratic-leaning. Ciattarelli lost the 2021 gubernatorial race by just three percent, while Trump trailed Biden by only six percent in last year’s presidential election.
