NATO Issues Stern Warning: Russian Jets in Our Crosshairs

In a confidential meeting in Moscow, ambassadors from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany conveyed their concern to Russian officials regarding the recent entry of three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets into Estonian airspace last week.

According toRokna, citing Bloomberg, senior European diplomats warned that NATO would respond forcefully to any further violations of its airspace and might target Russian aircraft if necessary.

The officials emphasized that the recent flights by Russian jets were deliberate and ordered by military commanders. This warning comes amid a series of Russian drone and fighter jet incursions over NATO member states in recent weeks, which some analysts describe as part of Moscow’s “hybrid warfare” campaign aimed at pressuring Europe and testing NATO’s internal cohesion.

The Economist noted that NATO had pledged in its annual meeting last year to defend every inch of allied territory at all times. However, recent developments in European skies indicate that maintaining this commitment in practice is more challenging than anticipated.

Reports indicate that on September 9, several Russian drones entered Polish airspace. On September 19, three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets briefly entered Estonian airspace for twelve minutes. A few days later, unidentified drones caused the closure of Denmark’s main airport and were observed over Oslo, Norway.

Western experts believe that, as U.S. President Donald Trump distances Washington from Europe and negotiations on the Ukraine conflict continue, Russian President Vladimir Putin is seeking to shift the balance of power in Moscow’s favor through new pressures.
