Pezeshkian: Iran Committed to NPT, Never Sought Nuclear Weapons
Rokna Political Desk: President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran does not intend to withdraw from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and asserted that the country has never been close to producing a nuclear weapon.

According to Rokna, in an interview with a U.S. television network, the President reiterated Tehran’s commitment to remain a party to the NPT and said Iran is prepared to fully implement its obligations under relevant international agreements.
Speaking to Fox News, President Pezeshkian recalled that the 2015 nuclear agreement had been accepted by all parties at the time of signature and that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had always been able to travel to Iran for inspections. He added that the United States unilaterally tore up that agreement.
The President stated that Iran had never been near the point of weaponization when Israeli forces struck its nuclear facilities. Pezeshkian called for guarantees that such attacks would not recur and questioned who had authorised them, saying, “Who gave the green light for these strikes?”
He reiterated: “We do not want to leave the NPT. External powers are looking for a superficial pretext to set the region ablaze.”
Pezeshkian also dismissed allegations that Iran foments terrorism through proxy groups in the region as “Israeli propaganda” lacking any evidence. He said such accusations are made easily but are incorrect, and underscored that Iran does not intend to attack any country and has not initiated acts of aggression.
On the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the President accused Israel of committing “clear genocide” there and argued that it is Israel, not Iran, that carries out daily attacks on others.
Responding to a question about whether Israel could coexist peacefully with its neighbours, Pezeshkian said: “Anyone who does not commit injustice, who does not bully and who behaves in accordance with humane and universal principles can live in peace. But one who breaks the rules and acts in ways that force people to react will inevitably face problems.”
He linked the prospect of coexistence to Israel’s conduct toward the peoples of the region, stressing that outcomes are determined by behaviour rather than declarations. Referring to responses from resistance groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas, Pezeshkian observed: “When you evict someone from their home, humiliate them and at any moment destroy their house, it is natural that any human may react.”
He concluded: “If we do not treat one another with force and coercion, peace will follow naturally.”
