Araghchi Holds Talks with South Korean Counterpart on Draft Resolution Vote to Lift Iran Sanctions
Rokna Political Desk: South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced details of a phone conversation between the foreign ministers of Iran and South Korea regarding the upcoming vote on a draft resolution proposed by Seoul aimed at lifting sanctions on Iran, as well as the possibility of a bilateral meeting in New York.

According to Rokna, the South Korean Foreign Ministry said that Foreign Minister Cho Hyun held a telephone conversation on Friday with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. During the call, the two ministers agreed to work toward holding a meeting on the sidelines of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in New York to discuss bilateral relations.
As reported by Yonhap News Agency, the two sides also exchanged views on the planned United Nations Security Council vote concerning the draft resolution put forward by Seoul to lift sanctions against Iran.
Cho stated that South Korea, as the current president of the Security Council, has been implementing the relevant procedural steps regarding resolutions and expressed hope that all parties would continue their efforts to pursue a diplomatic solution on the matter.
The Security Council is scheduled to vote today on a resolution that would permanently lift UN sanctions against Iran.
However, according to diplomats, the resolution is unlikely to secure the minimum nine votes required for adoption, and even if it does, it is expected to be vetoed by the United States, the United Kingdom, or France.
