British Typhoons Deployed to Poland: London’s New Strategy Against Russian Threats

According to Rokna, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that, in reaction to the recent intrusion of Russian drones into Polish airspace, Royal Air Force Typhoon jets would be deployed to Poland.

Speaking to Channel 4, Starmer stated that this decision was taken in response to Russia’s recent violations of Polish airspace, emphasizing that ignoring Moscow’s new aggressions would be a grave mistake. He further cited recent Russian attacks on diplomatic centers in Kyiv, including the bombing of the Ukrainian Cabinet building and the European Union delegation, noting, “It is clear that Russia has escalated its level of aggression, and it is essential that we, together with our NATO allies, respond appropriately to these actions.”

This decision followed the summoning of Andrey Kelin, Russia’s ambassador to London, by the British Foreign Office over an “unprecedented violation of NATO airspace.”

Romania’s Ministry of Defense recently reported the incursion of a Russian drone into its airspace, which was intercepted by two F-16 fighter jets. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the incident as “the closest situation to open conflict since World War II.” Reports indicate that one of the Russian drones crashed onto a residential house in Poland after being targeted.

A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office emphasized that Russia must understand that continued aggressive actions will only strengthen the unity among NATO member states and the UK’s resolve to support Ukraine. Any further aggression will be met with a firm response.

According to the UK Ministry of Defense, between April and July, six RAF Typhoon fighters had already been stationed in Poland as part of a mission to reinforce NATO air patrols. During this period, the jets conducted nearly 500 hours of operational flights, completed 20 emergency missions, and carried out joint air operations with Swedish aircraft.
