Macron Announces 26 Countries Committed to Postwar Military Support for Ukraine

According to Rokna, citing The Guardian French President Emmanuel Macron announced that 26 countries have pledged postwar security guarantees for Ukraine, either by deploying a “reassurance force” in the country or maintaining a presence nearby on land, sea, or air to prevent future aggression. The troops would not be on the frontline but would act as a deterrent. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the move as a significant step for Ukraine’s security.

The announcement followed a summit in Paris where European leaders sought U.S. backing, amid concerns over President Trump’s approach to Russia and Ukraine. Some European nations, including Germany, Spain, and Italy, have avoided troop commitments, preferring to provide arms, training, and funding instead.

Meanwhile, the U.S. and allied countries delivered 3,350 ERAM long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine. Russia criticized the security guarantees and continues its military operations in Ukraine, but economic sanctions and high interest rates are slowing its wartime economy. The situation highlights ongoing geopolitical tensions, European-U.S. coordination challenges, and the strain on Russia from both military and economic pressures.
