Putin Arrives in China for SCO Summit, Eyes Multipolar Cooperation

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Tianjin, China, on Sunday to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, joining over 20 world leaders including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The summit, hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping, is designed to strengthen multilateral cooperation among member states and explore strategies to counterbalance Western influence in trade, security, and regional affairs.

During his four-day visit, Putin is expected to hold bilateral discussions with several leaders on the sidelines of the summit. Key topics on the agenda include regional security, economic partnerships, and enhancing coordination within the SCO framework. Observers note that the summit serves as a platform to promote unity among member states and advance China and Russia’s vision for a multipolar world order.

Following the SCO meetings in Tianjin, President Putin is scheduled to travel to Beijing to participate in events marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, including a major military parade. The visit highlights China’s growing prominence on the global stage and its efforts, alongside Russia, to assert leadership in shaping international relations.
