Ali Akbar Salehi: Withdrawal from NPT Solely Within the Supreme Leader’s Authority
Rokna Political Desk: Ali Akbar Salehi, former Iranian Foreign Minister and former head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, stated that individuals or governmental bodies, such as the Parliament, cannot express opinions on such matters without consulting the Supreme Leader, as such statements significantly complicate Iran’s diplomatic efforts.

According to Rokna Salehi emphasized that withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) falls exclusively within the authority of the Supreme Leader.
In response to a question regarding the parliamentary proposal to exit the NPT, Salehi said that the issue has both a religious and a governmental dimension.
He added that, in his view, discussion on this matter is solely within the Supreme Leader’s jurisdiction, as the Leader’s command encompasses both religious and governmental authority.
Salehi noted that individuals or governmental entities, such as the Parliament, cannot, as a rule, express views on such issues without seeking guidance from the Supreme Leader, because such statements can be exploited by adversaries due to Iran’s special status in the international arena, thereby multiplying diplomatic challenges.
