Pezeshkian: SCO Summit a Key Step to Strengthen Multilateralism and Regional Peace
Rokna Political Desk: The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran described the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit as a historic opportunity to strengthen multilateralism, expand economic and cultural cooperation, and promote regional and global peace and security ahead of his departure to China.

According to Rokna, Masoud Pezeshkian, in outlining the objectives of his trip to China on the morning of Sunday, 9 Shahrivar 1404 (August 30, 2025), stated: “The journey ahead is of great importance. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, with member states encompassing over 2.5 billion people and more than 40 percent of the global economy, provides a unique capacity for expanding regional and international cooperation. Iran’s presence within this framework represents an effort to strengthen multilateralism in opposition to unilateralism and hegemonism pursued by certain Western blocs.”
The President, referring to the diverse agenda of the SCO Summit, noted: “During this meeting, in addition to attending the main session with permanent members, we will hold meetings with observer states. Constructive dialogues with presidents, prime ministers, and other high-ranking officials are scheduled, offering a valuable opportunity to align perspectives across scientific, economic, cultural, political, and security domains.”
Dr. Pezeshkian further highlighted the diplomatic dimension of his visit, adding: “Meetings with the President of China and other senior officials from member states are part of the program. We hope these discussions and sessions will contribute to enhancing peace and security in the region and globally, as well as improving development and welfare conditions for nations. Undoubtedly, such interactions lay the foundation for peaceful coexistence and constructive international cooperation.”
