Larijani: Iran Opposes Any Geopolitical Change in the Region

According to Rokna, Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Adviser to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, met and held talks on Saturday with Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the National Security Council of Armenia.

In this meeting, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, while expressing the Islamic Republic’s satisfaction with the level of economic, political, security, and defense relations with Armenia, emphasized cooperation with the northern neighbor in completing the North-South Corridor and connecting the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea.

Ali Larijani, while reiterating Iran’s support for peace dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan, elaborated on Iran’s theory regarding peace and stability in the region, stating that Iran has always supported the independence and strength of regional countries in order to sustain regional security.

Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the National Security Council of Armenia, in this meeting described the bilateral relations between the two countries as unprecedented and stated that the purpose of his trip was to expand relations in all dimensions, adding that Armenia seeks to sign a comprehensive strategic relations document with Iran in the near future.

Armenia Ready to Provide Necessary Guarantees to Iran

The Secretary of the National Security Council of Armenia, while emphasizing five principles—national sovereignty, respect for territorial integrity, the exercise of national judicial authority, the inviolability of borders, and the principle of reciprocity—declared that Yerevan is prepared to provide the necessary guarantees to the Islamic Republic to ensure that Iran-Armenia relations will not be harmed and that Armenia is inherently opposed to any geopolitical change in the region.

Grigoryan, in this meeting, stressed that within the framework of the agreements reached in peace negotiations, one matter that has been clearly observed is Armenia’s exclusive jurisdiction over its security, military, and customs issues.
