Security Council at a Pivotal Moment / European Response to China-Russia Draft Resolution

According to Rokna Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, wrote: “Members of the Security Council are at a decisive moment: either support the Russia–China draft resolution for a technical and diplomatic extension, or activate the sanctions re-imposition mechanism (snapback), which will have dire consequences.”

The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, in reaction to the action by three European countries to activate the snapback mechanism, warned that supporting this action would have severe consequences.

He added: “The reaction of the three European countries to this draft will ultimately show whether they are truly committed to diplomacy or are driving the crisis forward.”
