Tripartite Deal ‘100% Against National Interests’ / Govt Shown Weakness on Zangezur Corridor

According to Rokna’s parliamentary correspondent, Amir Hayat-Moqaddam warned that this East–West corridor (Zangezur), managed by an American company, will become a lever of pressure against Iran and will weaken the country’s North–South transit route.

The representative of Mahshahr, Omidieh, and Hendijan in the Twelfth Parliament, reacting to the recent agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia with the United States, stated: “This agreement is a new tool of pressure against Iran, and the President must immediately take action and adopt a position.”

Hayat-Moqaddam stressed: “The Supreme National Security Council must also intervene and, while officially expressing its opposition, take a decision. This agreement is 100% against our national interests and has turned into an instrument for exerting pressure on Iran.”

This member of the National Security Commission of Parliament, explicitly voicing opposition to the East–West corridor, said: “It is planned that an American company will take responsibility for this 32-kilometer corridor. This is while Iran has always benefited from the North–South corridor. They want to deprive us of this route and, by connecting Azerbaijan to Armenia and Turkey, link two NATO member states together.”

Hayat-Moqaddam, criticizing the government’s performance, added: “Unfortunately, the government has acted weakly. The President must declare his opposition, but so far no reaction has been shown. Although the Minister of Foreign Affairs has expressed his opposition, this is not sufficient.”

He called on the media to step in, adding: “Especially international media must cover this issue extensively. This plan will have severe negative economic consequences for Iran and will affect the country’s transit revenues.”

Hayat-Moqaddam, pointing to the consequences of this agreement, said: “At present, Iran has access to Europe through the South Caucasus, but with the operationalization of this corridor, this route will be blocked and we will be forced to take longer and more costly routes.”

In conclusion, he warned: “This agreement is part of the U.S. and NATO’s pressure scenario against Iran. NATO is considered the military arm of the West, and this corridor is also a tool to impose further pressures on our country.”
